Horsforth Community Cafe celebrated it’s 10th birthday on Monday 15th June with a special menu, a chocolate raffle, a quiz, plus a wonderful birthday cake made and donated by Truly Scrummy ! Cllr Simon Dowling, leader of Horsforth Town Council, cut the first slice, the cake was then shared amongst all our customers.

Horsforth Town Council said:
“On behalf of Horsforth Town Council, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks and congratulations to the Horsforth Community Café as it celebrated its 10th birthday celebrations this Monday just gone.
It was a pleasure for Chair Simon Dowling to join the celebrations on Monday and to recognise the positive impact the café has had over the past decade. The warm welcome, friendly atmosphere, and sense of community that the cafés provide week after week are truly invaluable.
Simon Dowling, Chair of Horsforth Town Council, said: ‘The Community Café has become a vital part of life in Horsforth, providing friendship, support and a sense of belonging for so many people. Reaching this 10-year milestone is a remarkable achievement and a testament to the dedication of everyone involved. We are incredibly grateful to the volunteers whose commitment and kindness have helped make the cafés such a valued community resource.’

A special thank you must go to the dedicated volunteers who generously give their time, energy, and commitment to make the cafés possible. Without their support, these sessions simply would not happen. Their contribution has helped create a welcoming space where people can connect, make friends, and access support when needed.
If you have a few hours to spare and would like to make a real difference in your local community, we would encourage you to consider volunteering on a Monday. It’s a rewarding opportunity to meet new people, support others, and be part of something special.”
Here is what the cafe meant to one person at a time when they needed it:
‘When I had our eldest child I was on government maternity pay – every week we looked forward to coming and getting some food and social interaction where we could actually afford to go and eat outside of the house. There I met other parents with children similar ages, which was an absolute lifeline considering I was from outside of the area. I will forever be grateful to your team of volunteers for your commitment to the local community and to food waste and just wanted to share our story as it really does matter when people need it most. So thank you so much from all of us xx’
