Rev Chris Clayton welcomed to St Margaret’s & Horsforth at lovely service

St Margaret’s church was full on Weds evening as we joined together to officially welcome Rev Chris Clayton at his Licensing Service.

The service was conducted warmly by Right Revd Arun Arora, Bishop of Kirkstall, who led the formalities of the event, as the Rev Clayton first reaffirmed his ordination vows before taking the Oath of Allegiance and the Oath of Canonical Obedience and leading the congregation in prayer. The service also included a hearty recommendation by Chris’ previous church in Harrogate, readings done beautifully by children from St Margaret’s Primary school and welcomes from various people in the Community including Simon Dowling from the Town Council, Rebecca Maiden Headteacher of the Primary School, Duncan Stow of Churches Together, Penny Pinn from the Community Cafe, and then others from the church such as Joanne Hoare who runs the brownies and other groups and Daryl Kelly from the Mothers’ Union.

It was a very joyful occasion with many from St Peter’s in Harrogate also attending to support Chris – they are very sorry to see him leave but wish him well in this new stage of ministry, and are very grateful for all he brought to their church including a listening ear, a nurturing approach and plenty of good humour!

The Deputy Lieutenant Yvonne Stocks was also present to welcome Chris on behalf of His Majesty the King.

The service was followed by chatting and fellowship over lovely refreshments.

We are all glad to welcome Chris and his family to Horsforth and look forward to working closely with him and the church in the days ahead.
