Reverend Nigel thanked at Civic Service

Those who braved the torrential rain enjoyed cake and chat followed by an uplifting Civic Service at St Margaret’s Church on Sunday 20th July.

Update on work of Horsforth Community Assets Project (HCAP) by Claire Evans

Claire Evans shared a fantastic video about the work of Horsforth Community Assets Project (HCAP), plus other related work, and gave a personal overview of her role as ABCD worker (Asset Based Community Development) over the last 6 years. She explained that although the previous funding has come to an end, everyone involved is hoping that funding bids will be successful to continue the work going forward. HCAP is now under St Margaret’s Church.

The Horsforth Community Textile Map was borrowed from it’s home in the Museum and displayed at the front, a great reminder of how all the different people and organisations in Horsforth work together to make it the place we know and love.

Prayers for Our Town and Town/City Councillors

The service included specially chosen prayers for our Town and City Councillors and all those who work hard for the good of Horsforth.

One of the prayers used was the following prayer which is traditionally used in the House of Commons before each session:

“Lord, the God of righteousness and truth, grant to our King and his government, to Members of Parliament and all in positions of responsibility, the guidance of your Spirit. May they never lead the nation wrongly through love of power, desire to please, or unworthy ideals but laying aside all private interests and prejudices keep in mind their responsibility to seek to improve the condition of all mankind; so may your kingdom come and your name be hallowed.

Amen.”

Thanks and prayers for Nigel

As this was the last joint service or HCT-related meeting where Rev Nigel Sinclair would be present before he leaves to take up a part-time post in the North East, Duncan represented Horsforth Churches Together in expressing thanks for Nigel’s leadership and can-do attitude and presented him with some gifts as mementos of Horsforth. He also prayed for Nigel and his family as they move into this next phase of life.

One of the gifts was a lovely set of two wooden candlesticks made at Horsforth Shed, which when placed together make the shape of a heart – a truly special reminder of the love we have shared here in Horsforth, and which we send with Nigel as he moves on!

Nigel extended a warm invitation to everyone to attend
his farewell CELEBRATION SERVICE AND PICNIC on Sunday 31st August 10am/12 noon
– all are very welcome!
